While Joe Blanton says his arm injury isn’t any worse, it seems the Phillies think otherwise. GM Ruben Amaro, Jr. said, “evidently, he’s got some new discomfort. He had some medial problems in the joint, and now he’s got lateral issues that added to the discomfort.” Blanton hasn’t been the same pitcher since coming over to the NL after logging 230 innings in 2007 for Oakland. He hasn’t hit 200 innings, falling just short in 2008 and 2009 prior to injuries beginning last season. His days as an innings eater could be numbered at the age of 30. He may not even have a spot in the rotation when he returns, as Vance Worley is taking his place and has solid numbers this season when called on: 2-0, 1.13 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 16 IP, 15/6 K/BB in 2 GS and 4 appearances.
